Explore Tulum’s Cenotes

A cenote (pronounced seh-NO-tay) is a natural freshwater swimming hole formed when limestone collapses, revealing the underground water below. They can range from open-air pools surrounded by jungle to incredible underground caves.

Cenotes were considered sacred by the ancient Maya, and today they’re one of the most unique experiences you can have while visiting Tulum. Many are open for swimming, snorkeling, and exploring.

A few to check out:

Dos Ojos — Famous for its interconnected underwater cave system and crystal-clear water.

Gran Cenote — A popular and picturesque cenote with clear water, caves, and areas for swimming and snorkeling.

Cenote Azul — A beautiful open-air cenote surrounded by jungle with plenty of space for swimming.

Vesica Tulum — More of a cenote club experience, with cabanas, a restaurant, bar, and a natural cenote for swimming.
